Foil Objects

Made from polished aluminum foil and needle-felted wool, these decorative objects embody my drive for experimentation and passion for learning new fabrication methods. Both crafts I came across by chance, and felt the incredible urge to learn everything about them until I could acquire the materials and practice myself, over and over again. Both start with loose and temperamental raw material, and require hours of repetitive and deliberate strikes to achieve their final form.

Process

I began my form exploration by observing shapes I inherently found alluring – naturally occurring crystals and symbiotic organisms. I admire the duality of the polished and textured surfaces, transitions in color, reflection of light, and how juxtaposing materials come together.

The foil hammering method I came across by chance. I was instantly captivated, and could not continue with my project until I tried it—and perfected it—myself.
